the best advice would be to reset and format the zune... instructions on how to do so are posted all over the inrenet aswell as the microsoft offical website... once you wipe the firm ware off the zune and reinstall it... you should be able to update and use it like normal....

I just wanted to point out how many mysterious lcd cracks have been reported. Seems odd to me that something with no impact damage appearance (such as my Zune) somehow has a cracked lcd. To top it off, Iīve found articles about this very same problem. Zune will not uphold its warranty and pay for these mysterious cracks that come out of nowhere even though there are apparently many people having this problem. This sounds like a defect to me, which I didnīt know when I sent it in, but now that I do, I think itīs time we do something to protect our rights. Nobody buys a product thatīs going to suffer spontaneous combustion on purpose and they need to pay for their mistakes instead of making their customers feel like idiots.

I agree with the commentors on that page, the lcd crack in this pic is obviously an impact crack, but if I could put up a picture of my own, you would obviously see mineīs not, it has a straight crack in the middle of the screen. BTW, my Zune was in my obsessively organized desk when it happened. There was no physical damage, even when I carried it around it was in my jacket pocket which has zippers, so no falling out and getting busted.

Unfortunately the connector is soldered onto the main motherboard, so your gonna have to order a whole new motherboard, but its fairly simple to replace. I had the same problem on my zune. I dont know if you have gotten a reply. However, the screen you are seeing is common for the first time plugged into your comp. Just remove the zune from the cable turn it on and let the battery run out. Then plug the zune back in and let it charge for a minimum of 2 hours. It is better to charge it for 4 hours so you have a full battery. Sorry if this isnt any help. I suggest that for waiting for the battery to die do it over night. And the same for charging it.

A co-worker asked if I could fix her Zune, I said it could be the battery being old, but upon recieving the battery kit, I opened it up and discovered that the circuitboard is cracked at the joint where the headphone plugs in, just above the battery cutout. look the aswer is easy the mainboard is broke.... professoinally this could cost you about the price of a new zune....I found an easy solution find a new board online its called RapidRepair.. all you need is a small screw driver set an exacto knife and safe openers.. this site also gives you step by step instructions on how to repair it a new board will cost you about 100 they also sell other products like LCD screens Upgrades and New batteries that last 15 percent longer then your old one... if you need someone to do it for you I could but it will cost you 20$ umm and you need to buy your own parts.. this site is very helpful if your a handy man or woman.

I dropped my zune so many times before and the last time wich was a few days ago, i fell out of my hand and now i canīt hear any music, it still works though except i canīt listen to the music. well how can i get it fixed, is there a number i can call??, how much would i get charged to have it fixed.

Go to your zuneīs settings and set the backlight to 1 second. the backlight significantly wastes power. Another powerhog is the wireless function. Sounds like you arenīt installing the zune software is this true, its almost a reskinned WMP11, just with a better look for album art feature far as i can tell.

Whatīs Microsoftīs excuse here? I thought the Microsoft mantra was always customer choice?
The idea that I need to load drivers from a CD on every potential computer I might want to connect with is stupid. Even Apple realized having Mac and Windows versions of their iPods wasnīt cost effective and went to a universal solution, which only hurt small outfits like MediaFour who provided a workaround. Every digital camera on the planet is automatically recognized in Windows XP (and every camera in my house is recognized by my Vista box). All of the media players I own are automatically recognized by both Windows Media Player and my system as a hard drive. So I ask you Microsoft Zune team - why do you hate your customers?
