Question:
Hi, i connected my zune 80gb to a speaker when someone knocked it down. Once it fell, i took it off the speakers and tried listening it through my earphones. I noticed that everything was perfectly normal but the only problem was that I didnīt hear anything. Could it be that something inside of the earphone connector be broken Everything else works but the music wonīt come out...?

PS...check it with another set of known good headphones first, before disassembling the whole thing. This last resort is best done by someone with good technician skills. Pete

Yup...as a technician I can tell you that the headphone jack is soldered to the circuit board, and the plug, with the leverage of a cord yanked on it can easily loosen the solder connection between jack and circuit board. If you wiggle the headphones while using, and the sound intermittantly comes and goes....that is a sign of a loosened connection of solder. sometimes the jack is so badly loosened that even wiggling it wonīt flex the jack enough to make any connection between the jack and a wobbled out citcuit board solder connection. the onle way to be sure is to open it up...if you have technician experience, and look for as gap between the jack lugs and the solder around the circuit board. a 2 cent fix...if you can get to it to resolder it carefully. I would use "silver solder" as it is stronger than the low melt temperature and weak factory solder. Good luck. Pete

Sometimes the earphone/speaker jack will get get loosely pulled out of its solder connection on the circuit board.. some disassembly, a touch of resoldering will restore continuity for the sound, and all is well. The best test for this is to use a set of known good headphones/speakers and wiggle their connection once or twice. If the problem goes away with the known good ones....you may have a damaged headphone/ speaker plug or cable, Cables are easier to fix than an internal jack, which would require unit disassembly to resolder the loosened soft solder REMEMBER TO GET THE POLARITY RIGHT. LET ME KNOW IN GREAT DETAIL WHAT YOU TRIED...IF THIS DOESNīT TELL YOU IF ITS THE PHONES, ORT THE CIRCUIT BOAED
