Question:
i have an old zune and when i play songs it will randomly stop but it will say the song is playing and when i try to change songs omsetimes it will freeze. is there any way i can fix it or do i need to call the support line?

its a first gen zune and i think it might be the hardware because i have already tried formatting and updating

Havbe you recently upgraded the firmware? A lot of freezing has been associated with Firmware 3.
You canīt do any better than backing up your zune on your computer, formatting it, resetting it then do a re-sync from your computer. This seems to clear a lot of problems. Also if the Hard drive is old it could be on itīs last days.
